If it is time to redo your child's bedroom, you may be faced with unwillingness or even resistance. Helping pick out new paint, furniture, and décor may not be something that your child wants to spend time doing, but having his or her personality reflected in the bedroom is very important. Here are some tips to help get your kids or teens involved in their bedroom design:
- Ask what their dream bedroom looks like so the room can be decorated and designed the way they want it. If you can't make all their dreams come true, try to find a compromise that allows kids to have the room they envision while staying within your budget.
- Have a painting party. Before you put new furniture in the room, clear out the baby or young kids’ furniture that your child will no longer be using, turn on some great music, and get to painting! If your child is old enough, let him or her invite friends over to help paint. Don’t be afraid to let them do it themselves—but be on hand for help if painting is a new skill for your child.
- Turn over the decorating reins to your teenager. After you've chosen the furniture together, give your teen a specific amount of money and let him or her pick bedding and other décor alone. It may be hard for you to let go, but your teen will appreciate the ability to make independent decisions.
- Make the bedroom design a special project for just you two. If you have more than one child, promise the other kids that when it is their time to redo their rooms, they'll also get one-on-one time with Mom or Dad. Turn the planning and shopping into a date—grab lunch, talk, and make plans for the new bedroom.

Designing a nursery involves more than just picking out the crib and baby furniture. Choosing the décor and other design elements can make a huge impact on the overall look and feel of the room. Watch this video clip to see the creation of a wonderful gender-neutral nursery.
As this video shows, some of the furniture is not typical baby furniture, but it works to create a space that's comfortable for Mom and Dad as well as baby. The paint, artwork, rug, and furniture all work together to make the nursery a fun and cozy place for everyone.
Cribs to College Bedrooms can provide for all your baby furniture needs. We also carry kids’ furniture to help your child transition as he or she grows. Call (630) 579-4932 for more details about our selection.
